NEUP CINR-18-14911: Understanding of degradation of SiC/SiC materials in nuclear systems and development of mitigation strategies

This work develops the best coating possible to prevent SiC/SiC corrosion in LWR environments. The work features a computational and experimental rapid screening approach for numerous coating compositions. Further it explores a direct implementation of a coating process during SiC/SiC manufacturing addressing the cost issue with these novel cladding systems. We will also foster the understanding of SiC/SiC and coating on radiolysis phenomena using the Irradiation and Corrosion Experiments.
