NEUP CINR-18-14999: Probabilistic Failure Criterion of SiC/SiC Composites Under Multi-Axial Loading

The proposed research will develop a probabilistic failure criterion of SiC/SiC composites under multi-axial loading by using a novel testing system. Acoustic emission and X-ray CT will be used to examine the damage state of the material. With the proposed failure criterion, a finite-weakest link model will be formulated to evaluate the failure statistics of SiC/SiC structures. The model will be experimentally validated and applied to analyze the reliability of LWR SiC/SiC fuel cladding.
