NEUP CINR-18-15003: Advanced Coating and Surface Modification Technologies for SiC-SiC Composite for Hydrothermal Corrosion Protection in LWR

A variety of innovative concepts ranging from overlay coatings with compositionally-tailored interfaces and multilayers to intrinsic modification of the near-surface chemistry will be developed to provide hydrothermal corrosion protection to SiC-SiC composite in normal light water reactor operation conditions. The surface treatment concepts involve corrosion resistant metallic and ceramic materials, and are amenable to industrial scalability for the cladding application.
