NEUP CINR-18-15058: High-resolution Experiments for Extended LOFC and Steam Ingress Accidents in HTGRs

The objective of this research is to better understand key phenomena in HTGRs relevant to steam ingress and loss of forced circulation (LOFC) accidents. Specifically, we will experimentally investigate steam ingress accidents caused by a postulated SGTR initiating event; experimentally study integral-effects tests for LOFC accidents; experimentally study complex helium flows in the core and hot plenum during steam ingress; and develop and validate predictive CFD models for steam ingress and LOFC
