NEUP CINR-18-15332: Low-Force Solid-State Technologies for Mitigation of Stress Corrosion Cracking in Dry Storage Canisters

The research involves the development of low force, low heat input solid state technologies to mitigate and repair stress corrosion cracking in dry cask storage canisters. Specifically the research will focus on the development of additive friction stir welding and cold spray processes. Testing and characterization to demonstrate the efficacy of these processes will be performed, and the research will also aim to demonstrate the on-site capabilities of these technologies.
