NEUP CINR-18-15345: Multiphysics degradation processes, and their mitigation, in engineered and geological barriers: experiments and simulation
The objective of the work is to understand the conditions, and to reduce the adverse consequences of degradation of geomaterials used in radioactive waste disposals exposed to drying-cracking, either due to forced ventilation or heating. Materials investigated are bentonites, Opalinus clay, argillites and tuff with clay and zeolite fractions. Of concern are: preferential paths of radionuclide transport and rock weakening due to cracking. The work includes experiments, modeling and numerics.
