NEUP CINR-18-15496: Formation of Zeolites Responsible for Waste Glass Rate Acceleration: An Experimental and Computational Study for Understanding Thermodynamic and Kinetic Processes

This project will elucidate the factors governing zeolite crystallization and their role in Stage III dissolution of radionuclide-containing glass. A collaborative team with expertise in zeolite synthesis, glass corrosion, and modeling will quantify zeolite formation at various conditions and examine novel routes to impede their growth. The rationale for this work is to better understand and prevent degradation processes for waste forms that could be generated in advanced nuclear fuel cycles.
