NEUP CINR-19-16754: Simultaneous Corrosion/Irradiation Testing in Lead and Lead-Bismuth Eutectic: The Radiation Decelerated Corrosion Hypothesis

To date no single alloy has satisfied all requirements of LFR/LBEFR structural materials, partially because they have not been simultaneously tested. To break this bottleneck, we will test candidate FeCrSi and F/M alloys in a new, simultaneous corrosion/radiation facility. Microstructural characterization, mechanical property testing, and corrosion tests, both during irradiation and following ion/He pre-conditioning, will assess how irradiation affects corrosion, potentially slowing it.
