NEUP CINR-20-19556: Statistical modeling of the effect of microstructural heterogeneity on the irradiation behavior of TRISO fuel buffer layer

This project targets a mechanistic understanding of and a predictive model for the irradiation behavior of the buffer layer in TRISO particle fuels. Combining multiscale modeling and quantitative characterization, this project will study several critical factors impacting buffer behavior, including buffer microstructure heterogeneity, buffer-IPyC bonding strength, swelling of fuel kernel and irradiation temperature. the proposed research will provide feedback for future deign of TRISO particles.
