NEUP CINR-20-19789: Controlling Neptunium and Zirconium in Advanced Extraction Processes

The ability to recycle nuclear fuel requires rational control of neptunium and zirconium in radiation fields. Np and Zr are problematic for different reasons. Np has a multivalent chemistry that impacts its partitioning between the aqueous and organic phases. Zr forms polymeric species. We propose radiolysis influences the behavior of both Np and Zr. We will characterize the behavior of Np redox and Np and Zr coordination chemistry in the organic phase in the presence of high radiation fields.
