NEUP CINR-20-19968: Experimental Investigations and Numerical Modeling of Near-wall and Core Bypass Flows in Pebble Bed Reactors

We propose to acquire targeted experiments and high-fidelity simulations of transport process for near-wall flow region in PBRs. The acquired extensive database is used to derive closure models and correlations needed for porous media code, such as Pronghorn. High-resolution measurements are performed on multi-scale facilities with large-enough numbers of pebbles. Modeling is done using CFD codes (Nek5000, Star-CCM+). Upscaling methodologies are applied to develop closure models for Pronghorn.
