NEUP CINR-25-34112: A Practical Approach to Developing Floating Nuclear Power Plants in the US

We will evaluate the techno-economic feasibility of converting presently under-utilized small merchant ships into floating nuclear power plants using self-contained US-made microreactors. This concept will deliver nuclear energy to coastal, insular and offshore sites with an expected low cost (compared to designing and building dedicated platforms and barges) and geopolitical value to the US as it competes against China and Russia to serve the energy needs of developing countries.
