NEUP CINR-25-34364: Development and Characterization of (Semi-)Clathrate Hydrates for Capture and Separation of 85Kr and Xe from Nuclear Reactor Off-Gas Streams
The goal is to develop and characterize novel clathrate and semi-clathrate hydrate compounds for efficient capture and separation of 85Kr and Xe from nuclear reactor off-gas streams. Using in-situ, unique techniques such as neutron scattering, Raman spectroscopy and calorimetry, we will determine chemistry-structure-stability relations, and develop novel Kr/Xe-bearing phases that are stable at close-to-ambient conditions while incorporating other volatile radionuclides, especially 129I.
