NEUP CINR-25-34557: Characterization of film dryout on Silicon Carbide cladding with and without crud

The deposition of corrosion products (crud) on nuclear fuel cladding can degrade fuel performance, result in high maintenance costs, and lead to fuel failures. Although usually seen in the nucleate boiling region of the reactor, recent reports have shown non-uniform crud deposits in the annular flow region. This work will evaluate the relationship between film dryout and crud formation in BWRs and will provide key closure relations for four-field annular flow models.
