NEUP CINR-25-34592: Investigation of technetium-99 speciation in molten salts

This project will investigate the speciation (coordination and redox chemistry) of technetium-99 (Tc) in molten salts (MS). Tc is a high yield product of uranium fission with a 210,000-year half-life that is problematic in the nuclear fuel cycle. Separation of Tc in MS reactors depends on understanding its speciation as a function of MS composition and temperature. CUNY partners with Brookhaven to accomplish this goal.
