NSUF 11-306: Atom probe tomography on highly irradiated F/M steels

We will investigate if 155 dpa and different temperatures can lead to the formation of alpha’phase or intermetallic precipitates in HT-9 ACO3-duct samples. The Local Electrode AtomProbe is a unique method to investigate the microstructure at the nanometer scale and therefore an ideal tool to investigate the influence of radiation on the microstructure of potential materials (such as HT9) for Generation IV Nuclear Energy Systems. If the research is successful we will establish how phase boundaries of this steel are influenced while being able to investigate the influence of radiation on the formation of intermetallic precipitates. Moreover we will establish the handling, and measuring of radioactive materials at INL CAES facility within the ATR program. The gained results should be published in a peer reviewed journal. The expected period of performance is 7 days.
