NSUF 17-CINR-12985: Irradiation, Transient Testing and Post Irradiation Examination of Ultra High Burnup Fuel
This project is intended to generate sufficient test data to inform industry and regulatory agencies to allow the disposition of the fuel fragmentation issue in standard Light Water Reactor (LWR) fuel designs irradiated to high burnup. This will require subjecting pre-irradiated and reconditioned LWR fuel samples to simulated accident conditions in a hot cell furnace and, if the modified performance in reconditioned fuel is observed, in the Transient Reactor Test Facility (TREAT).
