NSUF 22-4430: Atom probe tomography and transmission electron microscopy studies on LWR-Irradiated Harvested Reactor Internals

This work will employ high-resolution techniques of transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography to elucidate microstructural changes in 304 SS subjected to different dpa (1, 15, 50). The goal is to improve our understanding of extended service life on the structural integrity of reactor vessel internal components. The work is expected to be completed within six months of the contract award. These tests results will be used in combination with other research results to inform aging management approaches used by industry to ensure the integrity and function of LWR internals. They are also used by NRC to inform its regulatory activities to ensure safe plant operation.
