NSUF 18-1547: Synchrotron XRD characterization of long range order in Ni-Cr alloys formed by isothermal aging or irradiation

The objectives of this work are to characterize the phase fraction of the long range ordered (LRO) Ni2Cr phase that develops when aged at temperatures below 500°C or when irradiated. This data will allow us to correlate phase fraction transformed to mechanical property degradation (measured via hardness and tensile testing). This correlation will be used to develop predictive models to estimate mechanical properties over the service lifetime of nuclear components. Additionally, we will perform in situ studies on heating to identify the critical temperature as a function of alloy concentration. This information will help to develop low temperature phase diagrams for the Ni-Cr-Fe system where data is lacking.
