NSUF 24-5135: Quantification of Radial Constituent Redistribution in Annular U-10Zr Irradiated Fuel Using EPMA
The objective of the proposed work is to determine the composition of each constituent redistribution zone on a microscale of an annular U-10Zr fuel irradiated to ~12 at% burn-up using electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). The collected composition of each zone will allow for the correlation of local thermal conductivity to phases present and the microstructure as a function of radial location. Limited microstructural characterization including scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) maps have been completed in preparation for this project. This work will enhance the understanding of constituent redistribution of annular U-Zr fuel and advance the development of fuel performance code for metallic fuels.
