NSUF 13-411: Irradiation Effects inAged Cast Duplex Stainless Steels
The work is planned to systemically characterize the neutron irradiated cast stainless steels at un-aged and aged conditions by using TEM and APT, and the research will be focused on precipitations and elemental segregation. The output of execution of the proposed study will provide some of the first knowledge of synergistic effects on microstructural evolutions in the cast stainless steels reactor components under thermal aging and neutron irradiation. By correlating the microstructural studies with the associated mechanical tests, this proposed research will provided a fundamental understand on the aging behavior of the cast stainless steels during the designed 40 years reactor life, and more relevantly during the extended life of 60 years and beyond.
